Meet Hennessy
My fascination with birth began years ago, sparked by watching The Business of Being Born as a teenager. In 2014, I witnessed my first birth—that of a neighborhood cat—and that experience transformed curiosity into something deeper. Watching her birth and care for her kittens with such instinct and confidence was profoundly moving. It was primal, unencumbered, and beautiful.
In 2018, I followed that pull to birth and attended my first DONA Birth Doula training. I began supporting families as a volunteer doula with Operation Doula in San Diego, a nonprofit offering zero-cost doula care to birthing people throughout the community.
Though my doula work has ebbed and flowed over the years, the birth of my first child in April 2025 (with the support of a fabulous doula!) brought me home to this work in a new way. I completed a second DONA Birth Doula training in October 2025 and continue to deepen my knowledge, skills, and trust in the birth process.
To date, I have supported 14 births, including both vaginal and cesarean deliveries. I am currently working toward my DONA certification. I am honored to support families through one of the most transformative experiences of their lives.
Birth Philosophy
I believe that every birth is magical, transformative, and entirely its own. I trust in the strength, wisdom, and innate knowledge of the birthing body, while also deeply valuing the care that midwives and doctors provide.
I believe there is no single “right” way to give birth. Each person’s choices, preferences, and path to parenthood are unique and worthy of respect.
Education is central to my work. Knowledge helps dismantle fear, builds confidence, and allows birthing people to make informed decisions—because informed choice is powerful.
How someone is treated during labor and birth has a profound impact on how the experience is remembered and integrated. Feeling seen, heard, and supported matters.
Birth has always been rooted in community, in women supporting women. Everyone deserves to be held, respected, and supported through this life-changing experience.
